About the Author
Francisco Laguna Correa creció en el centro de la Ciudad de México durante los ochentas. La Huelga General de la UNAM de 1999 hizo que interrumpiera sus estudios en la Prepa 3, pero en lugar de unirse a los huelguistas, se fue a vivir a Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoacán, donde algunas veces trabajó recogiendo leña, vendiendo abarrotes en un tianguis y cargando pacas de avena. En Michoacán, cobró consciencia social de las dificultades vitales y económicas que viven los trabajadores del campo mexicano y los inmigrantes mexicanos en Estados Unidos. En 2001, entró a estudiar a la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), en CU, pero dejó la carrera de Lengua y Literaturas Hispánicas para redactar informes para Volkswagen por cuarenta pesos al día. La precariedad laboral y el desencanto por la UNAM lo obligaron a emigrar fuera del Distrito Federal y posteriormente fuera de México. Tras varios años de ejercer oficios diversos en México, Europa y Estados Unidos, terminó sus estudios de licenciatura en la Portland State University. En Portland, Oregón, trabajó en el distrito escolar como maestro de inglés como segunda lengua (ESL) con niños migrantes de kínder y primaria. Después estudió tres maestrías y en 2016 recibió el título de doctor (Ph.D.) por parte de la University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Ha sido docente y becario en la University of Pittsburgh, y en la actualidad es profesor visitante en High Point University. Vive en la ciudad de High Point junto a su esposa Tessa, quien también es docente universitaria. Cuando no escribe, le gusta sembrar betabeles y hierbas de olor.
